The Different Testing Formats

 

 

1. TOEFL® Junior™ Standard-Test

• The TOEFL® Junior™ Standard Test was developed specifically to evaluate the English-level proficiency of students aged 12 to 16. It assesses their listening and reading comprehension, as well as their capability of using the correct grammar and vocabulary and serves as a means of showing their learning progress. 

• The TOEFL® Junior Standard-Test evaluates the overall English-level proficiency separately from the school curriculum.

• The questions are multiple choice. 

• The test takes about 115 minutes. Before we start we give instructions and answer questions.

2. Institutional TOEFL-Test (TOEFL ITP), TOEFL ITP Digital Test And Preparation Course

• The TOEFL ITP and the TOEFL ITP Digital Test are mainly needed in academic fields and are made up of three parts: Reading, listening and structure & written expression.

• The questions are emultiple choice.

• The test takes about 115 minutes. Before we start we give instructions and answer questions.

• More information about the TOEFL ITP test can be found here.

• The TOEFL ITP Digital Test is the online version of the paper based TOEFL ITP test and is completed on the computer. The structure as well as the scale are the same for both tests.

• We regularly offer one day preparation courses for the TOEFL ITP test. Our certified test administrators will do a trial run with you and prepare you for the upcoming exam.

• The test and the preparation course usually take place on saturdays. In order to be able to offer a preparation course, at least six participants are required.

• I M P O R T A N T : We want to make clear that the institutional TOEFL (TOEFL ITP) and the TOEFL ITP Digital Test are NOT the same as the internet-based TOEFL (TOEFL iBT). Please make sure whether you need the TOEFL ITP or the TOEFL ITP Digital Test. We take no responsibility in case the results of a TOEFL ITP or TOEFL ITP Digital Test are not accepted by your institution.

• The test can only take place, if at least 3 people have registered for the same date. The decision whether a test will be taking place or not will be made at least two days before the exam date (thursdays).

• You have to register at least 12 days prior to the day of the TOEFL ITP or the TOEFL ITP Digital Test. If you have already taken the  TOEFL ITP or the TOEFL ITP Digital Test before, you have to register 14 days before the day of the test. In this case you will not be able to register at a later point under any circumstances. If you are taking the TOEFL Digital Test, you must register 4 days prior to the day of the test.

3. Preparation Course internet-based TOEFL (TOEFL IBT)

• The internet-based TOEFL (TOEFL iBT) is mainly required in the US & Canada.

• The d.a.i. DOES NOT offer this test, only preparation courses for the test. 

• The TOEFL iBT test is offered directly and only by the ETS. Available test dates can be found at https://www.ets.org/toefl. The dates for tests taking place within Baden-Württemberg can be found here. Please be aware that you will only be able to see the actual availability for test dates once you have registered at ETS. The registration and payment processes are also handled exclusively by the ETS.

• The d.a.i. offers specific TOEFL iBT preparation courses. These one day courses will give participants all of the necessary information about the test and what strategies will be most efficient in solving the four parts (Reading, Writing, Listening und Speaking) of the test.  Our certified test administrators will work through countless exercises with you and make sure that you are well prepared for the test.

4. TOEIC-TEST LISTENING & READING

• The TOEIC Test is the most popular test, with more than 5 million people taking this test each year all over the world for professionally oriented English. It is recognized by businesses all across the globe and can also be used as proof of sufficient English-level proficiency at universities.

• The TOEIC-Test Listening & Reading consists of two parts: Reading and listening comprehension. The content of the test is aimed specifically at everyday work life within an international context. The questions are multiple choice. The test takes about 120 minutes. Before we start we give instructions and answer questions.

• After taking the TOEIC-Tests Listening & Reading you will receive an individual score report, which details your English-level proficiency (including your strengths and weaknesses). Additionally, you will be able to order a certificate when you register (10€ per participant).

• Send us an email and we will be happy to provide the employees of your business with the TOEIC-Test Listening & Reading and can also be taken online.

5. DAAD-LANGUAGE CERTIFICATION

• The DAAD-language certification is a standard proof of language proficiency. 

• It indicates the current level of language proficiency according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) and is often required when studying abroad. 

• The DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst) originally developed the DAAD-language certificate as proof of language proficiency when applying for the DAAD-scholarship. Today it is accepted by foreign schools worldwide as proof of language proficiency as an alternative to the much more expensive IELTS or TOEFL test.

• The d.a.i. offers the DAAD-language certificate as proof of language proficiency in English and Spanish.

• The DAAD-language certificate consists of the following four parts: Listening, reading, writing and speaking.

• The existing level of language proficiency is displayed individually for each section of the test.

• Each section of the test is evaluated on a four point scale (* - ****). scale **** is the best possible score, * the worst. The DAAD-score levels are similar to the score levels of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR). 

• The period of validity of the DAAD-language certificate varies. Usually it is about one to two years.

• The DAAD does not dictate the structure of the testing process of language proficiency. Therefore there are differences between the tests of different universities.

• At the d.a.i; taking the test takes about 1 hour. We will need your available times (day and time), an email address, your phone number and your course of study (if you need to take the test for university) and the reason for why you need the certificate.

• The test administrators arrange the tests themselves which is why they will be able to find a date that works with you personally.

• Once you have paid for the test you will receive the certificate immediately after taking the test. You can also take this test online via Zoom or Skype.
